My latest article was just published on Smashing Magazine, and it’s entitled “Passive Income Strategies for Web Designers“.
If you’re familiar with this blog, you’ll recognize that the article follows in the footsteps of my look at the first 6 months of Folyo, or my article on my eBook launch: basically, sharing my own experience in hopes it’ll help or inspire others.
Although the article uses the term “passive income”, Noel Tock pointed out to me on Twitter that “passive” sounds a little negative, and he prefers the term “scalable income”. I thought that was a great point, so from now on this will be the term I use myself as well.
By the way, one thing the article doesn’t really address is who should focus on passive (sorry, “scalable”) income. Scalable income is great, but it’s not for everybody: I think to be successful selling any kind of product online, you definitely need a couple solid years of experience behind you.
So if you’re just starting out, I would definitely suggest you start thinking about scalable income now and adopt a long-term view about your career, but do not expect to earn thousands of dollars until you have enough design skills to make your products truly valuable.
I hope you enjoy the article, and let me know about your own scalable income thoughts either here or over at Smashing Magazine.
